MnDOT District 3 will fill 2 On Call / Emergency Snow Plow Driver positions in the following locations:
(1) Isle
(1) Garrison
On call emergency employees are intermittent fill in drivers; they work a snow and ice shift and fill in for regular operators who are not available.
During a snow & ice season employees are typically split into an A or B shift, 12:00am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00pm - 12:00am (B shift); an employee may be asked to work 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the snow event.
Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour (1) of being called.
Job Duties:
(A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.)
- Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
- Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
- Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup.
- Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.
- Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).
- OR
- Education Substitution: Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
- AND
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with a Tanker Endorsement.
- Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist.
