Position: Dynamic Grade 1 Spanish Immersion Teacher

2026-27 Grade 1 Spanish Immersion Teacher, 1.0 FTE

Qualifications
  • Minnesota K-6 or 1-6 Elementary Education Teaching License or qualification for a Minnesota teaching license.
  • Native or near native fluency in Spanish; advanced rating under ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
  • English language proficiency for communication with parents.
  • Successful experience with Total Physical Response (TPR) methodology in immersion programs.
  • Ability to develop lesson plans, instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction adjusting the District approved curriculum to meet each pupil’s needs.
  • Ability to translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth; maintain appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
  • Identify pupil needs, make referrals, develop strategies for individual education plans.
  • Communicate with parents using Schoology, newsletters, phone calls, e‑mails, conferences, etc.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Maintain and improve professional skills through meetings, PLCs, coursework, workshops, and seminars.
  • Integrate technology into instruction.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Collaborative work in a fast‑paced environment interacting with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community with multiple requests and concerns.
  • Support and communicate with other administrators and staff.
  • Respond in emergency situations.
  • Know, interpret, and follow school District policies.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Provide input to the goal‑setting process for paraprofessionals.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrated successful experience in an immersion program preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate skills in performing daily routines.
  • Proficient in operating a computer, software, and necessary classroom technology.
  • Develop effective and positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations.
  • Show initiative and function as a self‑starter.
  • Effectively communicate and have interpersonal skills to exchange information and receive work direction.
