The Automated Inspection and Measurement group leads in technology development, application investigations, system integration and deployment, and long-term support across 3M divisions in automated inspection, measurement, machine vision, automation, and process data systems.
Responsibilities- Design, integrate, and commission automated converting systems, with primary focus on fully automated slitters that ingest upstream inspection data for recipe management, cut planning, and dynamic control
- Design and develop automated inspection systems using optics, image processing, and AI
- Work within a team to solve manufacturing challenges
- Support automated converting & inspection systems in a manufacturing environment, including travel to manufacturing locations and on-call support
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, or science field (completed and verified prior to start)
Additional qualifications
- Possess expertise equivalent (6 years) to that which would be obtained in a master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field
- One (1) year of experience in process engineering within a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Three (3) years of professional experience implementing automated inspection, machine vision, or automated converting/slitting systems
- Experience with 3M custom web inspection or commercial web inspection systems in professional or educational environment
- Experience in converting technology, including automated slitters in professional or educational environment
- Image processing, signal processing, optics, software, or electronics experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, networking skills, interpersonal and leadership abilities

May include up to 40% US & international travel, primarily to 3M manufacturing locations

Compensation and BenefitsApplicable to US Applicants Only:
The expected compensation range is $98,413 - $120,282, including base pay plus variable incentive pay where eligible. The specific compensation may vary based on factors including knowledge, training, skills, location and experience. Benefits include health, retirement and other programs.
