Lead Transmission Engineer
Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Transmission Engineer to supervise a staff of technical designers and engineers responsible for the development of engineering designs, cost estimates, and communication of technical and design information to our customers. The supervisor manages and evaluates the performance of assigned technical staff, ensures compliance with client procedures, design standards, state and federal regulatory requirements, and safety codes, and collaborates with engineers working on substation, transmission, renewable energy, power storage, and communication design projects.
Responsibilities- Supervise technical staff in the preparation of utility engineering designs, cost estimates, and customer billing.
- Manage schedules and assign technical staff projects and daily work.
- Mentor and instruct technical staff on engineering principles, electrical and safety codes, and company policies.
- Teach staff to use computer systems, software, tools, equipment, and company‑owned motor vehicles.
- Guide professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate internal and external reviews of designs prior to submission.
- Evaluate performance and development of technical staff.
- Collaborate with department managers to develop, evaluate, and implement new policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other departments on company‑wide initiatives.
- Perform duties of the Transmission Engineering Manager when the manager is unavailable.
- Maintain relationships with existing clients and pursue opportunities with prospective clients.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Active PE licensure.
- 10+ years of experience in Power Transmission Design.
- Strong supervisory skills and ability to maintain work‑product quality, consistency, accuracy, and reliability.
- Advanced knowledge of overhead and underground transmission facilities and their integration.
- Experience with NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and other industry standards.
- Proficiency with PLS‑CADD, MFAD, AutoCAD, and related software.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
