Position Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail‑oriented Temporary Payroll Tax Specialist to join our Human Resources team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll tax processing across multiple states, supporting quarterly and year‑end payroll tax activities, and serving as a subject‑matter expert on payroll tax regulations and compliance. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and able to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
This is a temporary position with the potential for full‑time employment.
- Manage and support multi‑state payroll tax operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Partner with third‑party payroll vendors to maintain accurate and efficient payroll tax processing
- Research, analyze, and resolve payroll tax notices, amendments, discrepancies, and agency inquiries
- Monitor and communicate updates related to payroll tax laws, trends, and compliance requirements
- Review and validate quarterly balancing and year‑end payroll tax processes to ensure accurate filings and remittances
- Collaborate with Payroll, HR, and Accounting teams to reconcile prior tax quarters and resolve outstanding issues
- Tax reconciliations
- Maintain accurate payroll tax records and supporting documentation
- Assist with audits, reporting requests, and compliance reviews as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll tax processes, accuracy, and efficiency
- Provide excellent internal customer service while handling confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Hands‑on experience with ADP Smart Compliance required
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, including multi‑state and local tax jurisdictions
- Experience processing and supporting high‑volume payroll operations
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas such as VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, and data analysis functions
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross‑functionally
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information appropriately
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of payroll tax or payroll experience preferred
- Experience with payroll reconciliations, quarter balancing, and year‑end processing
- Familiarity with SIT reciprocity agreements and local payroll tax requirements
