Engineering Technician (Part-Time Contract)

This part-time Engineering Technician role supports the repair, assembly, and small-batch production of medical devices and related cable and harness assemblies in a regulated environment. You will work hands-on with electromechanical components, perform precision soldering, and build sub-assemblies that directly contribute to the reliability and performance of advanced bladder scanning equipment. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented technician who enjoys meticulous, quality-driven work and is interested in a contract-to-hire opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and rework on medical devices and related electromechanical components in accordance with established procedures.
  • Build and assemble mechanical and electromechanical sub-assemblies to support device manufacturing and service needs.
  • Assemble small quantities of production cables and wire harnesses in-house for low-volume or non-outsourced products.
  • Perform soldering of electronic components and cable assemblies to specification, including through-hole and fine-pitch work where applicable.
  • Read, interpret, and follow assembly and engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality procedures with high accuracy.
  • Use appropriate test equipment to support troubleshooting, verification, and repair of devices and assemblies.
  • Document all work performed clearly and accurately to meet quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow regulated quality system practices and adhere to applicable standards throughout all repair and assembly activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area that supports safe and efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams as needed to resolve issues and improve processes related to device repair and assembly.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on soldering experience with electronic components, including through-hole and preferably fine-pitch soldering.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for precision assembly and repair work.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow assembly and engineering drawings, work instructions, and written procedures.
  • Comfort working in a regulated environment and following structured quality and documentation practices.
  • Troubleshooting skills in electromechanical systems, including basic electrical and mechanical problem-solving.
  • Experience using test equipment to support diagnostics and verification of device performance.
  • Work history in a medical device or other regulated environment, with at least 1 year of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the medical device industry, particularly with regulated product development, manufacturing, or service.
  • Experience working under FDA or similar regulated quality systems and familiarity with quality documentation requirements.
  • Work history in other regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, or electronics.
  • Understanding of quality system concepts and compliance expectations in a regulated manufacturing or service environment.
  • Interest in working with ultrasound bladder scanners that support improved patient care and help reduce Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI).

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Minnetonka, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
