Sojourner Project is a nonprofit organization serving those victimized by domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse. Sojourner’s primary purpose is to increase victim safety and support the journey from victim to survivor. Sojourner advocates work closely as a team to provide comprehensive services to victims/survivors at any stage of their experience with domestic violence. We encourage self-determination and informed-decision making.

Located in the western suburbs of Hennepin County, Sojourner is seeking a weekend and overnight shift Shelter Relief Advocate.

Position Summary

Shelter Relief Advocates works with other team members to maintain a shelter environment that is safe, welcoming and supportive for all residents. The Shelter Relief Advocate monitors the crisis/help line, offers supportive listening and encouragement, and provides safety assessment, planning, information, referrals and support to help residents to achieve personal safety goals and access available community resources such as housing and medical assistance.

This position works primarily weekends, holidays, and overnights (10pm-8am), flexible scheduling.. Pay starting at $20-$21 per hour.

Minimum Requirements
  • Willingness to participate in all needed training
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Experience and ability with Microsoft Office
  • Valid MN driver license with a very safe driving record
  • 2 or 4 year degree preferred in related field depending upon experience
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality practices
  • Some knowledge of domestic violence, trauma and its impact on victims
  • Personal or professional experience with socially, economically and culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to manage time and priorities working in a crisis-oriented organization
  • Knowledge of Hennepin County resources
