Job Description

Hours Per Day: 2.5 hours

SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, supervises students on the playground and in the lunchroom, maintaining a safe and orderly environment; assists in dining room cleaning and setup.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class.

  • Supervises students on the playground and in the lunchroom, maintaining a safe and orderly environment; duties will vary according to job assignment.
  • Supervises students on the playground; enforces rules, maintains discipline, reinforces positive behavior, resolves conflicts, and encourages socialization; checks playground equipment for safety, and monitors area for unauthorized persons; treats minor injuries with basic first aid.
  • Supervises students in the lunchroom; assists in dining room cleaning and setup.
  • Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and District staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work‑related issues, client records, and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned.

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School diploma or GED equivalent; some experience working with children is preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • MPS policies and procedures.
  • General safety and sanitation rules for public schools.

Skill in:

  • Monitoring the activities of children, and following instructions and safety standards.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co‑workers.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A valid North Dakota State Driver’s License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in various MPS facilities.

NOTE: This position is subject to veteran's preference.
