As a Senior Protection and Control (P&C) Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of cutting‑edge substation projects that enhance the reliability, safety, and efficiency of power systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation in protection and control systems, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with clients and stakeholders on impactful energy projects. This is a hybrid position allowing you to operate from one of CDM Smith's offices while collaborating with top engineering professionals across the organization.
Preferred office locations include Wadsworth, OH;
Columbus, OH;
Pittsburgh, PA;
Philadelphia, PA; as well as CDM Smith offices in New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Georgia. Other U.S. locations may be considered based on your qualifications.
- Lead diverse and complex projects related to power systems, facility design, and renewable energy.
- Manage the entire project lifecycle, from conceptual design and regulatory compliance to successful client delivery.
- Develop expertise in power studies, electrical calculations, lighting design, fire alarm, communication, and security systems.
- Showcase thought leadership through technical publications, white papers, and participation at industry conferences.
- Conduct training sessions based on client and industry standards.
- Review project designs extensively to ensure compliance with both client and industry standards.
- Collaborate with sales teams and clients to develop innovative project proposals.
- Act as the main client contact to foster strong relationships and trust.
- Mentor junior engineers, aiding their professional growth and development.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related discipline.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- 12 years of relevant experience; travel may be necessary based on project requirements.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Proven experience with substation engineering and detailed design for high-voltage projects up to 345kV.
- Strong background in protective relay schemes and wiring diagrams.
- Expertise in developing equipment specifications for substation projects.
- Proficiency in SCADA/RTU components and hardware selection.
- Solid understanding of NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) and NEC (National Electrical Code).
- Experience in grounding grid design and lightning protection systems.

Pay Range$134,264 - $248,394. Bonuses are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
