Position: Director, Nursing Acute Care (3571)

The Director of Nursing Acute Care provides strategic and operational leadership for inpatient nursing services across Trinity Health’s acute care units, ensuring consistent, high-quality care delivery. The role supports evidence-based nursing practice aligned with regulatory requirements, professional standards, and the organization’s mission and values. The Director oversees clinical operations, care coordination, and performance improvement initiatives, working closely with nursing staff, physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and senior leadership to foster collaboration and advance a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations of acute care nursing units, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care in alignment with the nursing process and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate short- and long‑term goals that support quality improvement, patient outcomes, and the professional advancement of nursing practice.
  • Ensure compliance with the North Dakota Board of Nursing, The Joint Commission, CMS requirements, and internal policies governing acute care services.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives that enhance clinical workflows, care delivery, patient safety, and resource utilization.
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration with nursing teams, physicians, hospital leadership, and other departments to support integrated care delivery.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership development for nursing staff and managers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Licenses and Certifications Required
  • Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the State of North Dakota or licensure from an approved compact state.
  • BLS certified. Membership in a professional organization is encouraged for personal growth.
Educational Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Master’s Degree is desirable.
  • Memberships in professional organizations are desirable.
Experience Requirements
  • Three to five years of nursing experience with two years in a supervisory position.
Special Skills or Training Requirements
  • Certification in Nursing Administration is desired.
  • Continual updating of knowledge.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of communication skills, problem‑solving techniques, and understanding of human relations.
  • Ability to apply professional management principles of planning, organizing, and leading nursing to affect exemplary nursing practice.
  • Manual dexterity, physical stamina, visual and hearing acuity.
  • Potential exposure to chemical, mechanical, electrical, and environmental hazards associated with Trinity Hospital's operation.
Physical Requirements

The Director is frequently required to walk through inpatient units, stand for extended periods, and participate in patient care observations or clinical support activities. The role may involve occasional lifting, positioning, or assisting with movement of equipment or materials associated with patient care. Adequate vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and physical stamina are required to evaluate clinical environments, respond to emergent needs, and communicate effectively with staff and patients.

Requirements

Work is performed within hospital inpatient units and clinical support areas where exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, cleaning agents, and standard hospital equipment is common. The role may involve navigating fast‑paced and high‑stress environments, including responding to urgent care situations. Adherence to safety procedures, PPE use, and infection‑prevention protocols is essential. Occasional travel within the medical district may be required to support operational needs.
