The RN, Emergency/Trauma provides immediate, high-quality nursing care to patients experiencing emergent, life-threatening, and complex health conditions within the Emergency/Trauma Center. This role performs rapid clinical assessments, initiates evidence-based interventions, and continuously monitors patient status to support stabilization and safe transitions of care. Working collaboratively with physicians, trauma teams, and interdisciplinary staff, the RN contributes to coordinated, efficient responses during high-acuity and critical events.
As part of a highly skilled, team-oriented emergency care environment, this position supports exceptional patient outcomes, safety, and a well-organized approach to emergency and trauma care.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform rapid triage and comprehensive assessments to determine patient acuity and guide immediate clinical interventions.
Deliver emergency nursing care, including medication administration, wound management, IV therapy, and stabilization measures in accordance with established protocols.
Monitor and document changes in patient condition, respond promptly to emergent needs, and communicate effectively with trauma physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
Prepare patients for diagnostic testing or procedures and support safe transfers to inpatient units, surgery, or higher levels of care.
Maintain accurate, real-time documentation in the electronic health record to ensure continuity, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Participate in emergency preparedness, unit-based training, and performance-improvement activities that support trauma readiness and high-quality care delivery.
Licenses and Certifications
Required:
Current or temporary RN license in North Dakota or compact RN licensure.
BLS certification required within orientation period.
Specialty certification in area of practice is desirable.
Educational Requirements:
RN program as evidenced by licensure.
Official diploma or transcript from the school/university from where Degree was received.
Experience Requirements:
Hospital experience is preferred but not required.
Special Skills or Training Requirements:
As required by specific units.
Physical Requirements:
The RN, Emergency/Trauma frequently stands, walks, bends, and moves quickly in response to changing patient conditions and emergency situations. The role includes assisting with patient mobility, positioning, and transport, as well as lifting, pushing, or pulling equipment and stretchers. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for performing rapid assessments, administering treatments, and operating emergency care equipment in a fast-paced environment.
Environmental Requirements:
This position works in a high-intensity emergency and trauma environment with routine exposure to infectious diseases, blood and bodily fluids, sharp instruments, and cleaning chemicals. The RN may experience high noise levels, frequent interruptions, and emotionally charged situations while managing patients with critical injuries or severe illness. Strict adherence to PPE, safety practices, and infection-prevention protocols is required to maintain a safe care environment for patients and staff.
