The RN Clinic, Psychiatry provides specialized nursing support for patients receiving outpatient behavioral health and psychiatric services. This role conducts focused patient assessments, assists with medication management processes, and delivers education to support stabilization, coping strategies, and long-term wellness. Working collaboratively with psychiatric providers, therapists, and interdisciplinary care partners, the RN helps coordinate care, support timely follow-up, and monitor patient progress.
The position functions within a supportive, team‑based behavioral health environment where communication, compassion, and collaboration are essential. By maintaining clinical accuracy, supporting crisis‑reduction strategies, and adhering to Trinity Health standards, the RN Clinic, Psychiatry contributes to safe, patient‑centered behavioral health care and positive treatment outcomes.
- Perform psychiatric nursing assessments, gather behavioral health histories, and support providers in developing and implementing care plans.
- Assist with medication administration processes, monitoring for side effects, and documenting patient responses in compliance with clinical guidelines.
- Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, follow‑up appointments, and communication with behavioral health and community resources to support continuity of care.
- Educate patients and families on medication regimens, symptom management, safety planning, and available behavioral health supports.
- Collaborate with psychiatric providers, therapists, and care coordinators to respond to changes in patient condition, support crisis intervention strategies, and ensure safe transitions across services.
- Participate in quality initiatives, maintain competency in point‑of‑care testing, and complete required training to support effective psychiatric clinical practice.
- Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure.
- Ongoing CPR certification.
- Ongoing Point of Care certifications as required for the department.
- RN program as evidenced by licensure.
- BSN preferred.
- One year or more of professional nursing experience preferred.
- Clinic experience preferred.
- Coding experience preferred.
- May include travel to satellites.
- Computer use.
- Trinity Community Clinics – draw and package lab tests.
The RN Clinic, Psychiatry frequently sits, stands, and walks throughout the clinic while supporting patient assessments, consultations, and related workflows. The role involves occasional bending, reaching, or lifting light materials such as charts, supplies, or equipment. Adequate vision, hearing, and communication abilities are essential for conducting assessments, documenting accurately, and effectively interacting with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Environmental RequirementsWork occurs in an outpatient behavioral health setting with routine exposure to patients experiencing a range of psychiatric symptoms, emotional distress, or fluctuating behavioral needs. The role requires adherence to safety protocols, de‑escalation practices, and infection‑control procedures. The pace may vary with patient volume and clinical acuity, requiring flexibility, attentiveness, and strict compliance with confidentiality and regulatory standards.
