Summary
The line locator position is responsible for locating, marking, and documenting various underground facilities, such as pipelines, electrical and automation cables, and any other underground facilities owned or operated by Summit Midstream. Line Locators will locate all Company utilities, standby and witness on all 3rd‑party line crossings, document such crossings, update/closeout ticket statuses, issue ground‑disturbance permits as required, manage regulatory compliance documentation/inspections, and update site security drawings.
Other tasks include station inspections, regulator valve maintenance/documentation, and right‑of‑way inspection/documentation.
- Health, Safety, Security and Environmental oversight to ensure a safe and environmentally sound operation.
- Manage the One Call system and other regulatory and compliance documentation/inspections for operations.
- Maintain line‑locating technical skills and competency.
- Conform with and abide by regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
- Attend all required meetings or training.
- Respond immediately to dangerous or hazardous conditions and execute DOT‑covered functions per PHMSA and/or FMSCA.
- 1–5+ years of experience in underground utility locating, including pipelines.
- Working knowledge of DOT guidelines pertaining to pipeline systems.
- Self‑starter able to perform work with little supervision.
- Basic understanding of oilfield operations.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Organized with a strong focus on accurate reporting and detailed date management.
- Willingness and ability to be located within a 75‑mile radius of the asset to respond to call‑out situations.
- Ability to communicate with cross‑functional work teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet required deadlines.
- Proficient with computer systems such as Google Earth, mapping systems, Excel, Word, One Call or similar ticket systems.
- Above‑average physical mobility to access elevated height areas via stairs or ladders.
- Strenuous physical activity: pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs; manually transporting a load up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and perform heavy physical labor operating equipment safely.
