Position: Behavior Coach Educational Assistant (BCEA)

Position:
Behavior Coach Educational Assistant (BCEA) - Elementary

Work Schedule: 180 days per year, 8 paid holidays, and extra days as approved by Exceptional Education Administration

Hours: 32.5 hrs. weekly

Compensation: According to Auxiliary Agreement/Level IV position

Reports to: Director of Exceptional Education, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Exceptional Education, provide behavior/instructional support by assisting educational assistants, teachers, and administrators in delivering behavioral interventions. Work collaboratively with all buildings to help foster a safe and effective learning environment by working alongside and modeling for educational assistants, teachers, and administrators to promote positive behaviors and a productive climate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Model implementation of procedures for positive behavioral interventions.
  • Support school crisis teams in properly responding to behavior calls.
  • Support staff in de-escalation techniques.
  • Guide students to appropriate behaviors as needed.
  • Provide a focus on proactive behavioral coaching in all elementary buildings.
  • Assist educational assistants/teachers in arranging learning environments to reduce inappropriate behaviors.
  • Collaborate with building designated psychologists to implement productive strategies for specific students.
  • Guide students in understanding and following clearly defined limits.
  • Assist in EA professional development.
  • Hold/participate in individual staffing meetings to problem-solve with staff.
  • Observe students in a classroom setting and suggest timely, actionable intervention techniques.
  • Discuss with supervisors’ appropriate support that will be made available to the student's family.
  • Build and maintain a positive rapport with the school community.
  • Integrate appropriate setting events, antecedents, teaching, and strategies to reduce problem behavior and increase alternative replacement behaviors.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding the student, parent, staff, and classroom incidents.
  • Follow daily schedules and procedures as assigned.
  • Discuss student limitations only with the supervisors and those directly involved with the student’s educational program.
  • Follow other directives from the Director of Exceptional Education.
  • Performs comparable duties of a like or similar nature as apparent or assigned.
  • Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, and department and district meetings.
  • Keeps abreast of changing trends, instructional and behavioral/educational technologies

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Assessing the school environments of the student
  • Have on hand necessary interventions in the classroom for the students
  • Helping students take part in everyday activities based on their unique circumstances
  • Performing administrative tasks such as keeping records.
  • Education/Training:
  • 12-Hour CPI Training
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Training in Functional Behavior Analysis
  • Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

    Works in standard office and school building environments.

    Equipment:

    Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.

    Travel Requirements:

    Travels to school district buildings and meetings as required.
