The Youth Minister leads the shared youth ministry of four Mishawaka parishes:
St. Joseph, St. Monica, St. Bavo,and Queen of Peace. This person runs Antioch, our high school ministry, which celebrated its twenty-fifth year this summer, and Emmaus, our middle school ministry. The work is discipleship: building a community where teens areknown by name, encounter the Lord in the sacraments and in real friendship, and grow into leaders who bring their
peers with them.

This is a part-time contract position for the coming year, funded in full by the four parishes. It is also more than ayear. The parishes are building the financial support to make this a full-time Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry, and the person who leads this year well is the natural first candidate for that role. We are hiring for oneyear and scouting for ten.

• Lead the weekly Thursday night gathering ica: nights of worship, catechesis, small groups, service,and fun, planned and run with the adult core team.
• Plan and lead two retreats a year on the Antioch model, each with ten weeks of preparation: forming the teenteam, recruiting core and host homes, organizing meals, and preparing talks and prayer.
• Run the special events that mark the year: incoming eighth graders night, senior night, the Antioch Olympics,and parent nights.
• Champion the summer pipeline: the Damascus summer camp trip (more than one hundred of our teens wentthis summer) and the Andrew Ministries small groups they come home to, where eight in ten teens stay engaged in their faith.
• Oversee and grow Emmaus, and recruit Antioch teens sixteen and older to serve there as ministers, so our highschoolers learn to lead by leading.

• Recruit and form adult core members, including young adults at least two years out of high school, through discipleship, education, prayer, and a ministry leadership retreat.
• Help teens discern their gifts and call them to their baptismal role in ministry: on the teen team, at Emmaus,and among their peers.

• Be a consistent, visible advocate and pastoral presence for the ministry: at Masses, in bulletins, and in personat Mishawaka Catholic School, Queen of Peace Catholic School, St. Anthony Catholic School, St. Thomas More Catholic Academy, Marian High School, and St. Joseph High School.
• Communicate regularly with parents and students, with the Commission carrying the communications logistics.
• Keep a personal life of prayer, recruit prayer partners for the ministry, and stay connected with local young adult groups and Newman Centers as a bridge for graduating seniors.

• A practicing Catholic in good standing, worshiping within the communities the Commission serves, with asacramental prayer life and full, joyful assent to the teaching of the Church.
• Experience in youth ministry, campus ministry, or a Catholic missionary apostolate (FOCUS, NET, Damascus,Encounter, or similar).
• A track record of building trust with teens, parents, and volunteers.
• Comfort out front: teaching, leading prayer, and running a room.
• Enough organization to run a ten-week retreat preparation without dropping threads, and to partner well witha commission of lay leaders.
• Availability on evenings and weekends, Thursday nights above all. A diocesan background check and Safe Environment (OPCY) compliance come before any ministry with young people.

• A degree in theology, pastoral ministry, or a related field, or equivalent ministry experience.
• Familiarity with retreat-based models (Antioch, Life Teen, Steubenville) and experience leading praise and worship or small groups.
