CNC Lathe Setup Technician
Location: Mishawaka, Indiana
Department: Manufacturing / Machining
Reports To: Production Manager or Manufacturing Supervisor
Employment Type: Full-Time
We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer / Setup Technician to join our machining team in Mishawaka, Indiana. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and optimizing CNC lathes to produce high-quality precision components while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. This position requires strong CNC programming knowledge, setup expertise, blueprint reading skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Program CNC lathes using G-code and/or CAM software to manufacture precision-machined parts.
- Set up CNC lathes, including tooling, work holding, offsets, and machine parameters.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T specifications, and work instructions.
- Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure product quality.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies.
- Monitor production runs and optimize cycle times while maintaining quality standards.
- Utilize precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production personnel to improve processes and resolve manufacturing challenges.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Train and support machine operators on setup, process requirements, and quality expectations.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of CNC lathe programming and setup experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of G-code programming.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
- Experience setting up multi-axis CNC lathes.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with manufacturing software systems.
- Technical degree, machining certificate, or apprenticeship completion.
- Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, or similar CNC controls.
- CAM software experience such as Mastercam, Esprit, GibbsCAM, or Fusion 360.
- Experience with live tooling, bar feeders, and multi-spindle equipment.
- Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of machined materials and tooling.
- Ability to work safely around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment.
