What You’ll Do

As a Senior Consultant on AmPhil’s Direct Response team, you will serve as a strategic advisor and relationship lead for a portfolio of nonprofit clients. This role is centered on leading strategy, building trust, and guiding clients through smart fundraising decisions — especially in moments when performance is strong and when challenges arise.

You will be the primary voice of counsel for your clients, helping them see the big picture, understand results, and move forward with confidence. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, leadership presence, sound judgment, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

While a strong understanding of direct response fundraising strategy is essential, this role focuses on leading strategy and managing it to execution rather than hands‑on campaign production. You will partner closely with internal project managers and specialists who execute the technical components of campaigns.

This role reports to the Director of AmPhil’s Direct Response team and may require travel 2–4 days per month on average.

Primary activities and responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the lead consultant for Direct Response engagements, helping to establish and execute strategic fundraising plans aligned with client objectives;
  • Leading the strategy and ensuring timely execution of all facets of integrated fundraising campaigns for multiple clients;
  • Leading regular client calls with a focus on strategic consulting and seamless execution;
  • Maintaining client relationships and building trust through consistent communication and engagement;
  • Interacting professionally by phone, video conference, in‑person, and email with clients, internal colleagues and consultants, and external partners;
  • Reviewing project deliverables for quality and accuracy to ensure all components align with client brand message and communications plan and support their goals and objectives;
  • Assisting with staff training, including serving as mentor to new staff, managing other staff and giving feedback on their work in the context of client engagements, and helping to develop training materials; and
  • Assisting with business development activities including leading contract renewal discussions, upgrading clients, attending prospecting events, and drafting and editing proposals and contracts.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experienced: The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of professional experience, including at least 2 years spent in direct mail or fundraising. A passion for direct response, strong detail‑orientation, and ability to develop strong relationships of trust with clients and colleagues are essential.
  • Principled: We look for colleagues who are excited about our mission to strengthen civil society; understand and honor the Western tradition; value truth, faith, and self‑governance; and understand that humans need virtue to flourish in community.
  • Bright: We want to work with people who are intelligent, logical, self‑directed, and curious; able to create order from ambiguity and translate theory and strategy into practical action.
  • Convivial: We put a premium on humor and good cheer and seek unpretentious, genuine, generous people who are fun to be around.
  • Forthright: We value clear, intelligent, engaging communicators who balance warmth and candor as they earn respect and build honest and trusting relationships.
  • Diligent: We search for conscientious colleagues who possess the prudence and…
