About the Role

The Senior Payroll Specialist is a key member of the Finance team responsible for overseeing full-cycle payroll operations and ensuring compliance across federal, state, and local regulations. This role partners closely with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders to support payroll accounting, audits, and client passthrough invoicing. Success in this role means delivering accurate, timely payroll while strengthening processes and scaling infrastructure to support company growth.

What

You’ll Do

Payroll Operations & Compliance

  • Manage and process full-cycle weekly and bi-weekly payroll
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Manage payroll tax notices, registrations, and agency communications, resolving discrepancies as needed
  • Maintain payroll systems (Paylocity) and ensure data accuracy and integrity

Accounting, Reporting & Cross-Functional Execution

  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries; reconcile payroll accounts
  • Partner with Finance to support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Lead and support payroll-related audits; maintain audit-ready documentation
  • Process and reconcile client passthrough staffing invoices
  • Partner with HR on system enhancements and workflow improvements
  • Develop and improve internal payroll processes and controls to drive efficiency and scalability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and external partners to ensure seamless payroll operations
What You Bring
  • Strong experience managing full-cycle payroll in a complex or growing environment
  • Deep knowledge of payroll taxes, compliance requirements, and wage/hour laws
  • Demonstrated ability to own payroll operations with accuracy and accountability
  • Experience with payroll accounting, including journal entries and reconciliations
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with payroll systems such as Paylocity, ADP, or Workday
  • Experience supporting payroll audits and compliance reviews
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with financial reconciliations
  • Experience in a high-growth or scaling organization

Compensation

The expected base salary for this role is $80,000–$90,000. This range may vary based on factors such as experience, skills, location, and internal equity.
