Position
Part-time (18-credit) Lecturer position beginning July 2026 for Music Education at Asbury University.
RESPONSIBILITIESCandidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses, both online and face to face, affiliated with disciplines in music. Additionally, candidates will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues; have advisee assignments; be available to meet with and interact with students outside of class on an as needed basis; and participate in the life of the department, to include activities such as department meetings and special events which may be held outside of class time.
Candidates will have voting privileges at departmental meetings but not at Faculty Assembly and will NOT have committee assignments. Candidates may also apply for scholarship and professional development funds.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate the Music Education Program, including curriculum oversight, program assessment, and serving as Music Department liaison to the School of Education.
- Supervise student teachers in K–12 placements across diverse school settings.
- Advise undergraduate Music Education majors, providing academic guidance and professional mentorship.
- Teach core Music Education courses, including:
- Introduction to Music Education
- Introduction to Elementary Music Education
- Collaborate with education and music faculty to support state certification requirements and student success.
- Foster and maintain dynamic relationships with K-12 music programs in our region to strengthen Asbury’s service to its community and recruit music majors.
Depending on the candidate’s strengths, additional teaching assignments may include one or more of the following areas:
- World Music Survey
- History of African American Music
- Understanding Music (Foundations [Gen-ed] course for non-music majors)
- Ensemble Direction (Such as Gospel Choir, Chamber Ensembles, or the like)
- Music Technology
- Music Theory Courses
Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
Department of Music InformationThe Department of Music has over 350 undergraduate students, majors and non-majors, participating in its programs. The Department of Music offers NASM-accredited bachelor’s degrees; a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education, along with a Minor in Music. Our students engage in a rich community of ensembles, applied study, and academic rigor grounded in a Christian community in the Wesleyan Holiness tradition.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Music Education or a closely related field required.
- Successful K–12 teaching experience in music classrooms, preferably 5 years or more.
- Commitment to the mission of Asbury University and the integration of academic excellence and spiritual vitality.
- Ability to work collegially as part of a vibrant Department of Music faculty, with innovation and creativity highly valued.
- Candidates must be in harmony and compliance with Faith, Mission, and Community Lifestyle Standards.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate music education students as supervising teacher in student-teaching placements.
- Active involvement in state music education association, such as KMEA.
Compensation is competitive and dependent upon education and experience. No benefits included.
