Hawken School is seeking a credentialed learning specialist to join a collaborative team of teachers and administrators to help deepen our commitment to building a more progressive and differentiated teaching and learning culture. The successful candidate will serve as a member of the Support Services Team and interact with students, faculty, parents, and administrators. Internal candidates will be prioritized in the hiring process.
ESSENTIALDUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate collection and monitoring of data relevant to student achievement and progress
- Interpret diagnostic assessments and learning evaluations
- Design and teach lessons for individual students as well as small groups to support progress toward academic goals
- Create and share academic and learning support plans
- Consult with teachers and administrators to design, align, and implement innovative, personalized approaches to instruction
- Collaborate with the Student Support Team to further develop a multi-tiered system of support
- Compile documentation and communicate student progress with parents, teachers, and administrators
- Partner with teachers and administrators to identify, design, and/or lead professional development in learning support and differentiation
- Curate resources that support the goals of the curriculum and the needed skills for mastery
- Participate in grade-level team meetings and field trips, including a week-long out-of-state Doorways field trip
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Middle School Director or Head of School
- Certification as a learning/enrichment specialist or equivalent degree/specialization
- Master’s degree and at least three years teaching experience (preferred)
- Demonstrated competence in curriculum development, differentiated instruction, educational technology, and pedagogy enhanced by a desire to try new approaches
- Experience with Response to Intervention procedures, including screening, evidence-based support, progress monitoring, and data-driven decision making
- Respect for confidentiality in dealing with students who may have a diagnosis
- Demonstrated expertise in and joyful enthusiasm for collaborative work across teams of teachers, administrative teams, outside professionals, and the broader school community to support the developmental needs of middle school learners
- Demonstrated experience working in diverse communities with culturally responsive and inclusive practices
- Ability to identify challenges and draw from a toolbox of varied strategies
- Excellent listening skills and the ability to apply them in dynamic, fast-paced environments
