Main objectives of the position
The Plant Operations Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of the processing plant, supervising the operational activities of subcontractors, and ensuring that production targets are met. Also responsible for monitoring process performance and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
Mission and responsibilities- Provide appropriate training, coaching and follow‑up so that all subcontractors and consultants are aware of the relevant legal requirements that must be met during the execution of the project.
- Ensure full accountability by ensuring efficient plant performance with the operations team and pushing the boundaries of operational parameters.
- Ensure that change management processes are followed and well documented for all projects.
- Provide recommendations to the Processing Management regarding the content and quality of all work in the department, taking into account safety, resources and efficiency (in terms of time, cost and productivity) so that any operational changes are integrated into the Work packages.
- Contribute to the goal of the Processing Department to eliminate oil and hypersaline water spills at zero within the Metallurgy Department.
- Reduce energy consumption by operating the plant per unit produced at an optimal rate within the sphere of influence.
- Contribute to the Treatment Department’s goal of achieving zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance violations, and no events requiring public disclosure.
- Lead by example in creating a safe work environment, where risks are assessed and managed, so that tasks are performed without the risk of injury or damage.
- Ensure that the organizational structure can implement the operational efficiency strategy.
- Communicate policies and procedures to stakeholders in a way that ensures full understanding and compliance.
- Enforce ESG regulations with zero tolerance for violations.
- Demonstrate safety behavior in line with the vision and values of KGM and Hummingbird.
- Other tasks can be added as needed by the hierarchy as needed.
Knowledge / Skills and Competencies
- Management of plant performance and efficiency
- Excellent production planning technique.
- In-depth understanding of metallurgical accounting and budgeting.
- Demonstrable knowledge of metallurgical processes such as, but not limited to, size reduction, flotation, leaching, desorption, and tailings removal.
- Strong time management skills.
- Good understanding of the mining cycle as a whole.
- Must demonstrate a high level of integrity.
- Be solution-oriented.
- Maintain professionalism.
- Ability to plan strategically.
- Must demonstrate dedication and commitment to his/her responsibilities.
- Compliance with the law.
- Documentation extensive.
Training / Education Requirements
- Baccalaureate +4/5 in metallurgy
Required Experience
- A minimum of 8 years of work experience in the same or a similar field in the mining industry or base or precious metal processing plant operations.
Language requirements
- Be perfectly bilingual (English – French)
- Knowledge of Malinké is an asset
