Submarine Electronics/Computer Field (SECF)

The Submarine Electronics / Computer Field (SECF) trains Sailors to operate and maintain high-tech systems on submarines. Submarines rely on electronics, computers, and digital controls to navigate, run sonar, and support weapons systems. When these systems fail, the boat loses capability and safety margins.

Training is strict and technical. It covers electricity, electronics, fiber optics, digital systems, and repair skills. Standards stay high throughout the pipeline.

This path also requires steady focus and professional maturity. The work carries real responsibility because crews depend on these systems every day.

SECF Sailors enter one of three submarine ratings.

• Electronics Technician – Navigation (ETV): ETVs maintain navigation and related electronic systems. They help the boat stay on course.
• Fire Control Technician (FT): FTs support combat control systems and weapons employment. They keep critical systems ready and working.
• Sonar Technician – Submarines (STS): STS Sailors operate and maintain sonar and acoustic systems. They detect, track, and report contacts.

Each role centers on electronics and computers. Navigation, tracking, and weapons systems rely on accurate data and reliable gear. These systems help the submarine move safely, operate effectively, and respond when the mission changes.
