Leoni Meadows Camp and Retreat Center is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead our summer camp and year-round retreat center. This position oversees programming, operations, and guest experiences for approximately 2,300 children, youth, and families during summer camp and 9,000 guests annually at our retreat center, serving both Adventist and non-Adventist communities.
The Executive Director ensures the health, safety, and spiritual growth of campers and staff, compliance with local and state regulations, and representing Leoni Meadows within the church and broader community. Key responsibilities include strategic leadership, financial management, fundraising, and operational oversight, ensuring a high-quality, mission-driven hospitality and summer camp experience.
This is a full‑time, year‑round position. To provide effective leadership and support, it is recommended that the Executive Director live within 30 minutes of or be on‑site at Leoni Meadows.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Executive Director will oversee the operations of the retreat center, which include guest relations, reservations, maintenance, food services, and programming, along with the summer camp program that covers parent relations, camper registration, medical staffing, and activity planning. This role also entails collaborating with the Northern California Conference Administrative Departments to support staff recruitment, ensure effective communication and crisis management strategies, and enhance fundraising initiatives.
Additionally, the Executive Director will work collaboratively as a Youth and Young Adult Leadership Team member.
- Oversee compliance with all relevant state and county regulations, including health department certificates, quarterly water testing, wastewater reporting, and camp vehicle registrations and compliance with insurance requirements.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting for Hazmat, CARB, and water system reporting requirements.
- Develop, update, and enforce camp procedures, policies, and routines to maintain a smooth and safe operation year‑round. Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of camp facilities, including camp buildings, staff housing, and general infrastructure.
- Participate in on‑call rotations, managing camp operations, handling emergencies, and ensuring guest satisfaction.
- In collaboration with the Human Resource Department, lead the hiring and training of camp and retreat center department directors and support them in hiring and managing their teams.
- Conduct staff and camp operations evaluations to ensure mission alignment and excellence.
- Partner with the Human Resources Department to maintain staff well‑being, compliance with labor laws, and leadership development initiatives.
- Oversee year‑round and summer camp budgets, ensuring financial stability and efficiency.
- Facilitate at least three Board meetings annually, providing operational, strategic and financial updates. Obtain board approval for expenditures over $5,000 and collaborate on major financial decisions.
- Develop and implement long‑term plans to grow and improve Leoni Meadows.
- Utilize creative problem‑solving skills to address challenges and advance the camp’s mission.
- Lead fundraising efforts in collaboration with the NCC Development Department, cultivating relationships with donors, managing grants, creating fundraising campaigns, donor engagement and appreciation activities.
- Represent Leoni Meadows at churches, public events, and community gatherings to enhance visibility and engagement.
- Maintain strong working relationships with local government agencies, including Grizzly Flats, District 38, and El Dorado County, its first responders and law enforcement.
- Serve as the primary representative of Leoni Meadows, fostering strategic partnerships with stakeholders, communities, schools and churches to enhance visibility and impact.
