WMNF 88.5FM, Tampa Bay’s community radio station, is seeking a dynamic, community-focused General Manager (GM) to lead the station. Qualified applicants will have a passion for mission‑driven community radio and a desire to build on our history and reputation for diverse and high‑quality programming, community engagement, strong listener financial support, and deep volunteer engagement to achieve our goals of inspiring community service and financial sustainability.

Description

The GM provides overall leadership, including staff and volunteer management, and significant fundraising for the station, ensuring that all activities align with the station’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Working with the Board of Directors, the GM delivers strategic leadership in developing and implementing the station’s Long‑Range Plan and regularly reports to the Board on the station’s status. The GM serves as WMNF’s ambassador to the community and develops relationships that will benefit the station and the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Administrative Management:
    • Ensure all station policies and procedures are followed, including planning, evaluation, complaints, grievance procedures, and maintenance of station files.
    • Ensure compliance with regulations, guidelines, and standards of the FCC, CPB, IRS, and other licensing and qualifying organizations.
    • Supervise staff and volunteers to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
    • Lead management team in development of disaster preparedness and recovery plan.
    • Oversee all fundraising activities, including on‑air, outreach, and public events.
    • Cultivate relationships with local municipalities, community organizations, businesses, and individuals to maximize fundraising resources and expand WMNF’s presence in the West‑Central Florida region.
    • Collaborate with Development Director on development planning, grant writing and reporting, donor cultivation and recognition.
    • Cultivate potential donors and lead the station’s efforts to solicit both restricted and non‑restricted grants from individual, corporate, and foundation sources.
    • Develop and lead capital campaign(s) as needed.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Actively participate in the community and speak publicly on behalf of WMNF as the official station representative.
    • Attend all Board meetings and take primary responsibility for the Community Advisory Board.
    • Oversee the execution of a coordinated communications plan.
    • Provide volunteers and members with regular updates via website or other means.
    • Conduct ongoing target audience and market research, and develop and implement strategies for the retention and growth of WMNF’s currency and relevance to the community.
    • Engage with current, future, and past volunteers at the station and at special events.
    • Participate in all‑station meetings and Volunteer Committee meetings as needed.
    • Facilitate positive staff‑volunteer working relationships.
    • Utilize volunteer talents and connections for station projects.
    • Ensure all volunteer engagement activities align with the station’s Style Statement.
    • In cooperation with the Director of Finance & Administration, lead staff in preparing an annual budget and present it to the Finance and Audit Committee and the Board of Directors for approval.
    • Monitor the station’s operations to ensure compliance with the annual budget(s).
    • Collaborate with the Director of Finance & Administration to maintain ongoing financial health of the station.
    • Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and accounting principles for not‑for‑profit corporations.
  • Staff Management:
    • Develop and maintain positive, effective staff relations.
    • In cooperation with the Director of Finance & Administration, manage hiring, development, evaluation, and termination of staff personnel according to station policies and procedures.
