The PositionUnder the guidance of the Senior Manager, Food Bank Operations, the Food Bank Coordinator will support the effective, safe, and client-centered operation of The Center’s Community Food Bank. This role assists with food safety compliance, weekly distribution logistics, volunteer support, data tracking, and community engagement. Working closely with the Senior Manager, the Food Bank Coordinator helps ensure that food distribution activities meet all regulatory standards, run smoothly and efficiently, and reflect The Center’s commitment to organizational values.

- Food Safety & Compliance
- Monitor and document food safety standards (temperature logs, storage rotation, cleanliness checks)
- Ensure compliance with FIND Food Bank, Feeding America, state and local health regulations
- Support expiration-date tracking and first-in/first-out (FIFO) practices
- Assist with audit preparation or spot checks as needed
- Distribution & Client Support Operations Support weekly distribution setup and breakdown
- Assist with client flow, signage, and line management
- Provide light client-facing support (questions, referrals to staff when needed)
- Help track weekly distribution counts
- Volunteer Coordination Support Assist with day-of volunteer coordination: check-in, task assignment, breaks, etc.
- Help train volunteers on basic food handling and distribution procedures
- Flag volunteer needs or issues to the Senior Manager
- Data, Metrics, & Storytelling Support Assist with data entry and quality control across FIND Food Bank and internal systems
- Help compile monthly impact snapshots
- Track in-kind donation values for reporting and development use
- Support documentation for grants and funder reports
- Logistics & Equipment Oversight Monitor condition of refrigeration units, freezers, shelving, carts, and vehicles
- Conduct weekly commercial and private pick-ups
- Report maintenance needs or supply shortages promptly
- Assist with vehicle readiness for commercial pickups (cleanliness, scheduling reminders)
- Ensures all outside lighting is charged and ready for distribution
- Community Partnerships & Visibility Represent The Center’s Community Food Bank at select community events and/or food drives
- Assist with donor recognition logistics such as thank-you signage, photos, and/or data collection
- Collect impact stories, photos and short notes for communications and marketing use
- Emergency & Backup Coverage Serve as operational backup during staff absences or peak demand periods
- Assist with emergency food distribution efforts during surges or crises
Skills:
- CA Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Proficient in computer systems and software, with the aptitude to learn new technologies
- Riverside County Food Handler Certificate (can be acquired upon hire)
- Understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, including knowledge of gender diversity and nonbinary issues.
- Ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds and commitment to The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert’s mission and values.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Bilingual or fluency in a language other than English desired.
