I. JOB SUMMARY
Under Athletic Supervisor's direction, individual serves as a Recreation Assistant to all functions of the Parks and Recreation office. The incumbent must be able to work under stress and be able to handle various tasks in spite of interruptions. Must be able to work independently and be organized. Has frequent daily contact with all levels of City employees, outside agencies, and the general public.
Individual has no supervisory responsibilities. Individual will be assigned other duties as needed by the supervisor/department head.
Qualifications
II. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
Must be able to type 50 wpm and have good filing skills.
Must be proficient in working with personal computer, typewriter, and general office equipment.
Must have knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Windows 95, Excel, Internet, and E-Mail.
Must have experience in using a 10 key calculator by touch.
Must be able to communicate proficiently in the English and Spanish language.
Applicant must have a neat and professional appearance.
III. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTSApplicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
Applicant must take and pass a drug, physical, and pre-placement screenings administered by the City of Mission doctor at the City's expense.
Applicant must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the department of Public Safety with no more than two (2) moving traffic violations within the past two (2) years.
IV. SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS Ability to follow a firm work schedule as directed by supervisor.
Ability to follow procedures for keeping records.
Ability to deal with public relation issues and various types of citizen inquiries tactfully, courteously, and in a business matter.
Ability to compute and record numbers correctly.
Ability to follow instructions orally or in written form and perform tasks with little or no supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with office staff, auxiliary departments, elected officials and the general public.
Ability to perform work that is routine and detailed.
Ability to perform a wide variety of different types of tasks without the variety itself causing a loss of efficiency.
Ability to speak and write clearly and accurately (to include correct spelling).Ability to make decisions based on available data/criteria, laws and regulations, or city policy.
Ability to handle special projects of diverse nature as assigned.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and city policy procedures.
Special Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Answer telephone with clear, courteous, and business voice, and directs the calls to the appropriate destination to expedite response.
Receive visitors, answers questions and inquiries to resolve issues at hand or directs to appropriate destination.
Receives, sorts, stamps with time and date incoming correspondence and distributes mail, packages and other correspondence within the office.
Daily sorts and files letters and other documentation where directed.
Type letters and other documents as requested and within the time frame specified by supervisor.
Copy documents, utilizing office equipment, as directed.
Prepares letters and packages for processing utilizing postage meter machine for mailing.
Enter or post data into computer as directed.
Keep an accurate log of daily visitors and incoming calls received.
Must be able to tactfully keep loiterers away from city property.
Faxing information to different departments or vendors.
Takes registrations for team and individual recreation programs and receives fees.
Makes deposits of funds received.
Takes detailed customer service information, solves problems or follows up to insure customer concerns are followed up on by proper staff personnel.
Assists the Athletic Supervisor in the preparation of materials for Summer recreation programs. Monitors reservations of City facilities by the Recreation branch for policy compliance, customer satisfaction, and effectiveness.
Assists in the administration of departmental programs/activities as needed.
Performs independent work assignments for the Director under broad guidelines with minimum direction that are of a complex nature.
Perform all job functions with special attention placed on good public relations, safety, and proper office procedures in compliance with city policies.
VI. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assists in setting up for special events.
