Job Summary
Prepare and teach courses in mathematics offered in the department. Full‑time faculty members have a responsibility to actively participate in an institution of higher learning to benefit and engage with students and colleagues in realizing the mission of Sinte Gleska University. This participation manifests in scholarship, service, and teaching.
Duties & Responsibilities- At a minimum, Master’s degree in Mathematics preferred.
- Faculty must possess credentials one degree beyond the courses they teach, or have appropriate and relevant experience or 18 credits in the content area.
- College teaching and curriculum development experience preferred.
- Faculty members work in a team‑oriented department and engage collegially with colleagues, staff, and members of administration.
- Faculty must possess cultural competencies regarding working with Lakota and/or Native American people and respective organizations within reservation boundaries, or a willingness to learn.
- Be able to teach both online and in‑person, or willing to learn.
- Excited to nurture and inspire adult students; willing to learn and use cutting‑edge andragogy techniques.
- Able to meet students where they are at, with whatever math strengths they have, and help them build their knowledge from there with kindness, consistency, love, and high expectations.
- Ongoing steady work with all other math instructors to develop course material, creative assessment tools and programs in a positive way.
- Collaborate congenially with all faculty and staff across disciplines, and with the community.
- Help mentor new math faculty, adjunct instructors, and math teachers in local schools if needed.
- Enthusiastic about helping with recruitment, high school outreach, Bridge programs, extracurricular activities, and Boot Camps whenever those are happening.
- Knowledgeable about and willing to learn and keep up with technology tools for teaching mathematics and statistics.
- Aware of or willing to learn about national math licensure exam content that nurses and teachers need to succeed, and help prepare students accordingly.
- Interested in research and/or mentoring student researchers and applying for new or working with existing grants.
- Enthusiastic about possibilities and thinking outside the box.
