Occupational Health & Safety, Regulatory Compliance Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Safety Representative to join our Substation Division. This role is dedicated to overseeing safety and health operations on substation and utility scale projects. The ideal candidate has direct substation experience and a strong understanding of substation-specific hazards, grounding practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and energized work protocols.
Duties
- Execute safety program initiatives under the direction of the safety manager including initiation, enforcement, maintenance, and administration of jobsite safety
- Conduct daily safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments while monitoring compliance with Cava Electric’s Safety Program, OSHA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and client safety requirements
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and compliance documentation
- Conduct accident investigations, prepare investigation reports, and recommend preventative measures
- Develop and review Job Hazard Analyses and serve as a field resource and mentor to crews
- Collaborate with the Division Manager, supervisors, and clients to address safety concerns and implement corrective actions
- Arrange and organize on-site safety meetings
Skills
- Strong knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926/1910, NFPA 70E, and NESC standards
- Understanding of substation grounding practices, lockout/tagout, and energized work protocols
- Ability to conduct safety meetings with groups of 20 or more employees
- Clear documentation and incident investigation skills
Qualifications
- 5 years experience in safety investigation across 12kV to 345kV substation voltage
- OSHA 30 required, OSHA 500 a plus, plus First Aid, CPR, and AED training
- At least one of the following: professional safety certification, a safety-related college degree with 2+ years in safety management, 5 years in a professional technical safety management or electric utility operations role, or incident investigation training and experience
- Willing to travel to job sites
- Ability to pass a drug test and background check
