About the Role:

The Maintenance Assistant at Mission Nursing & Rehabilitation plays a crucial role in ensuring the facility operates smoothly and safely for both residents and staff. This position involves performing routine maintenance tasks, troubleshooting minor repairs, and supporting the maintenance team in larger projects to maintain a clean, functional, and compliant environment. The Maintenance Assistant contributes directly to the comfort and well-being of residents by promptly addressing maintenance issues that could impact their daily lives.

This role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential problems and collaborating with other departments to prioritize and resolve maintenance needs efficiently. Ultimately, the Maintenance Assistant helps uphold the high standards of health care services by maintaining a safe, reliable, and welcoming facility environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and work independently or as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a maintenance role within a healthcare or residential care setting.
  • Certification in facility maintenance or related technical training.
  • Familiarity with health care facility regulations and compliance standards.
  • Basic computer skills for logging maintenance activities and communicating with team members.
  • First aid and CPR certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance of facility equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building infrastructure.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to minimize disruption to residents and staff.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of equipment and furniture for events or room changes within the facility.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team and other departments to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Support preventative maintenance programs by identifying and reporting potential issues before they escalated.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored safely after use.

Skills:

The Maintenance Assistant uses technical skills daily to perform repairs and upkeep on various building systems, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. Strong problem-solving abilities enable the assistant to diagnose issues quickly and implement effective solutions, minimizing downtime. Communication skills are essential for coordinating with other staff members and reporting maintenance needs clearly and accurately.
