Mission Energy is a trusted advisor helping our clients advance their missions through the design, development, financing, and construction management of turnkey clean‑energy, storage, and efficiency projects. We work to empower any organization, primarily nonprofits, to implement and benefit from clean energy projects. Our rooftop, ground‑mount, carport, and BESS projects across the U.S. range in size from 250 kW–5 MW, typically 500–1,500 kW. We develop, finance, and own most of the projects we build.

About

the Role

We are seeking a seasoned leader to head our Project Delivery Team and take full accountability for our portfolio of solar and storage projects. This role begins the moment a contract is signed and concludes only when the project is fully commissioned and handed over to the owner.

As the Senior Director of Project Delivery, you will lead a team of 1–4 Project Managers who are overseeing the selection of EPC partners, managing complex utility interconnections, and ensuring every project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Because our primary clients are nonprofits, you will act as a trusted advisor to mission‑driven organizations, ensuring their transition to renewable energy is seamless and successful.

Key Responsibilities

  • EPC & Vendor Management: Lead the RFP process to select Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partners. Manage subcontractor relationships, contract negotiations, and onsite performance.
  • Operational Oversight: Drive the full project lifecycle: engineering design review, permitting, utility interconnection, construction, commissioning, and project closeout. Ensure all projects are on schedule.
  • Financial Accountability: Responsible for project P&L, including budget development, cost control, and client invoicing. Ensure all projects meet target margins.
  • Client Relations: Serve as the senior point of escalation for clients, translating technical milestones into clear, accessible updates for boards and stakeholders.
  • Strategic Planning: Refine internal processes for project handoffs, scheduling, and documentation to improve deployment speed and efficiency.
  • Opportunity Vetting: Partner with Sales and Origination team to evaluate the technical feasibility of sales opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 7–10+ years in the solar industry, with a proven track record of managing commercial & industrial (C&I) or community solar projects from start to finish.
  • Leadership: At least 3 years of experience managing a team of project managers or technical professionals.
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including NEC codes, utility interconnection processes, and racking/inverter technologies.
  • Contractual Expertise: Strong experience managing EPC contracts and sophisticated construction agreements.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences, particularly nonprofit executive directors and boards.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (PMP certification is a plus).
  • Lifelong Learner: Commitment to continually learning and growing, including in the use of AI. Problem‑solving mindset. Technology fluent.
Why This Role?
  • Impact: You will be directly responsible for bringing renewable energy to organizations that serve the public good.
  • Ownership: You will have the authority to shape the implementation department and set the standard for how we build.
  • Complexity: You will work on sophisticated solar + storage and microgrid configurations that require high‑level technical and logistical coordination.
Other
  • Travel: Required to client sites, company meetings, and industry conferences.
  • Compensation: Commiserate with experience.
  • Benefits: Competitive benefits including company‑provided healthcare, unlimited PTO, paid holidays, 401(k) plan.
