Maintain a safe road system for tomorrow.
General Statement of DutiesThe Mechanics will conduct maintenance on a fleet of over 40 types of heavy equipment and trucks, as well as provide operational support to Road & Bridge projects as deemed necessary by the Road & Bridge leadership.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities Mechanic I Responsibilities
- Provides outstanding customer service to all customers, at all times.
- Responds to inquiries and public questions as appropriate.
- Assists with performing service schedule for trucks and heavy equipment.
- Records and reports services in IWORQ fleet management database.
- Tracks parts, invoices, and works with vendors.
- Transports equipment to vendor shops for repair as required.
- Updates fleet management database with repair work on each vehicle.
- Tracks and stocks shop tools and repair parts.
- Assists with maintaining technical manual library.
- Maintains welding equipment and bay.
- Assists with equipment recovery as trucks get stuck or break down.
- Assists with ordering general shop supplies, oils and lubricants, receive and stock them.
- Manages assigned areas of responsibilities (i.e. tire replacement program).
- Assists with HVAC system maintenance.
- Performs shop clean up.
- Updates project status as required.
- Records and reports work orders in IWORQ.
- Assists with plowing as needed during the winter.
- Assists with large projects in the summer as needed such as hauling material for chip sealing.
- Must be available for on-call duty.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Leads service schedule for trucks and heavy equipment.
- Records and reports services in IWORQ fleet management database.
- Tracks parts, invoices, and works with vendors.
- Coordinates technical job orders for repair work to be performed by the vendor.
- Oversees the updating of the technical manual library.
- Oversees the maintenance of the welding equipment and bay.
- Leads equipment recovery as trucks get stuck or break down.
- Notifies superiors when equipment is beyond repair.
- Places orders for general shop supplies, oils and lubricants, receive and stock them.
- Manages assigned areas of responsibilities (i.e. tire replacement program).
- Performs HVAC system maintenance.
- Establishes and updates service schedule for trucks and heavy equipment.
- Trains others to record and report services in IWORQ fleet management database.
- Manages parts, invoices, and works with vendors.
- Coordinates technical job orders for repair work to be performed by the vendor.
- Leads equipment recovery as trucks get stuck or break down.

Education, Certifications, and Work Experience Road and Bridge Mechanic I- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one (1) year of heavy equipment mechanic work related experience.
- Ability to get Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A, with the Tanker (N) endorsement.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least four (4) years of heavy equipment mechanic work related experience.
- Ability to get Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A, with the Tanker (N) endorsement.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
At least seven (7) years of heavy equipment mechanic work related experience. - Ability to get Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A, with the Tanker (N) endorsement.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general documents, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to read equipment technical manuals in hard copy and on the internet.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to apply them to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situational variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
