GENERAL DESCRIPTIONUnder minimal supervision, the Supervisor, Financial Reporting provides direct daily oversight to a team of finance professionals in the delivery of financial reporting and analysis services related to the Municipality’s corporate accounting processes and financial statement preparation. This includes providing accurate, timely, and meaningful financial services and supporting the Manager, Financial Planning and the Controller in the preparation of the Municipality’s quarterly and annual financial statements.

Leading by example, the supervisor promotes the Municipality’s cultural competencies of personal accountability, continuous improvement, effective communication, collaboration, excellence in customer service, and support for common goals. Primary responsibilities of this position include:
Employee Development: Performs supervisory tasks for assigned team members. Works with team to plan and balance workload, ensuring that staff members are managed fairly and consistently and that work processes are followed. Provides direction on task prioritization, and leads staff in the delivery of technical advice, recommendations, and decision support. Mentors, coaches, and provides support to staff. Empowers and develops staff by way of regular feedback, providing development opportunities and technical direction, as well as delegation of responsibilities.
Research and Implementation: Participates in continuous research, development, improvement, and implementation of effective departmental strategies, tools, and guidelines based on applicable legislation, policy, industry standards, and best practices. Ensures compliance with the Municipal Government Act and the Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS). Analyzes the effectiveness of departmental programs and makes suggestions for further improvement. Provides input into department business plans, initiatives, and budget to ensure continuous achievement of department goals.
Departmental Guidance: Reviews and approves divisional monthly journal entries and ensures prompt and timely general ledger reconciliations. Responsible for overseeing the Municipality’s corporate analysis and reporting (i.e. contingencies and reserves). Coordinates the branch’s work to ensure timely delivery of accurate financial statements (annual and quarterly). Reviews all working papers to ensure there is standard and accurate backup for these financial statements.
