Job Title:

Registration Clerk (PRN)

Provides front-office and patient registration support on an as-needed (PRN) basis, covering peak volumes, staff absences, and special coverage needs. Responsible for greeting patients, verifying demographic and insurance information, scheduling appointments, and processing registration paperwork with accuracy, courtesy, and confidentiality.

Essential duties and responsibilities include: greeting patients and visitors in a courteous, professional manner upon arrival; verifying and updating patient demographic, insurance, and eligibility information at each visit; collecting co-pays, self-pay fees, and outstanding balances; scheduling, rescheduling, and confirming patient appointments across applicable departments; scanning, filing, and maintaining patient identification, insurance cards, and registration documents in the EHR; answering multi-line telephone system, routing calls appropriately, and taking accurate messages;

verifying insurance eligibility and benefits via phone or online payer portals; assisting with patient check-in and check-out processes, minimizing wait times; maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations; maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming reception and waiting area; communicating with clinical staff regarding patient arrivals, delays, or special needs; performing other clerical and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications to perform this job successfully include: high school diploma or GED required; one (1) year of experience in medical office registration, customer service, or a related front-office role preferred; ability to read and interpret documents such as insurance cards, safety rules, and simple instructions; ability to write routine correspondence and registration notes; ability to communicate effectively and courteously with patients, staff, and providers;

ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; ability to accurately collect payments, make change, and balance a cash drawer; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to handle multiple tasks and interruptions in a fast-paced front-office environment.

Physical demands include: sitting, talking, and hearing; using hands to operate a computer and telephone; standing and walking; close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment is typical clinical office/front-desk environment with moderate noise level. Work schedule varies based on department need and may include evenings, weekends, or short-notice coverage.
