Qualifications
  • Hold a standard class AA teaching certificate
  • Complete an approved master's degree program for guidance counselor.

Job Goals

To guide students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and maturation.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Develop, organize and administer the guidance program.
  • Oversee implementation of mandated Abstinence Education.
  • Provide counseling interviews with students during the school year including development counseling, self-referred counseling and crisis counseling.
  • Provide group guidance and counseling activities with students during the school year.
  • Identify and plan remediation for problems which interfere with the mastery of basic skills.
  • Supervise maintenance of cumulative records.
  • Coordinate a career education program for grades 6-12.
  • Communicate with parents on student progress.
  • Assist students with education planning in individual counseling and group guidance sessions.
  • Act upon referrals from students, teachers, other professional staff, parents and agencies.
  • Help teachers, students and parents obtain and use materials of a guidance nature.
  • Provide orientation for new students and students from grade level to grade level.
  • Provide vocational and educational information and assist members of school staff in their work with school students.
  • Assist students with career development and planning in individual and group guidance sessions.
  • Assist in the placement of students in the appropriate educational program and/or job.
  • Coordinate student appraisal.
  • Register students new to the school and orient them to school procedures and school's varied opportunities for learning.
  • Assist students with withdrawals from school.
  • Conduct referrals of students to community agencies.
  • Assist special education staff with referral-to-placement process.
  • Utilize community resources and agencies in providing services.
  • Assist students, parents and teachers in making effective use of community resources.
  • Assist in placing students for instructional purposes.
  • Consult with students, parents, teachers, administrators and other appropriate individuals.
  • Work with family concerning home situations that relate to school attitude and performance.
  • Work with teachers and other staff regarding student attitude, progress, attendance, etc.
  • Coordinate follow-up studies on students.
  • Demonstrate professionalism within the school and school district by adhering to board/school policies.
  • Demonstrate professionalism at the state, regional and/or national levels by maintaining membership in one or more counseling related professional organizations.
  • Adhere to the Ethical Standards of the American Association for Counseling and Development.
  • Prepare honor roll and failing reports each grading period.
  • Evaluate the guidance program.
  • Perform other such duties and responsibilities as the Principal may assign from time to time.
Terms Of Employment

Salary and length of contract to be determined by the Board of Trustees.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of Board policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
