Position: ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AND CHAIR OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

Postion summary

Tougaloo college-a private, four-year, co-educational institution in jackson, mississippi-invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant or associate professor level in political science. In addition, the faculty member will serve as the chair of the department. The appointment will take effect fall 2024 semester.

Duties

The successful applicant is expected to teach a variety of courses, including introduction to political science, american government, comparative politics, international relations, research methods, political theory, and senior seminar. As chair, the selected applicant will be tasked with articulating a vision and strategic plan for the department, as well as coordinate the execution of the department's educational programs with the faculty, schedule courses and assign instructors to courses in consultation with program directors, the faculty, and the dean's office.

The appointment will include, but not be limited to: monitoring and adjusting course registrations and course instructor assignments, reviewing departmental programs for relevancy and enhancements, evaluating faculty, and shepherding processes for faculty re/appointments and faculty promotion and tenure. The successful candidate serves as a central figure in communicating and addressing concerns of internal and external constituents on the departmental level.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in political science and teaching experience at a community college, four-year college, or university. The applicant should possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and have a strong command in quantitative analysis. Grant writing experience will be an asset. Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and community members is essential.
