Director of Bands

• Long range planning to include goals and objectives relevant to the growth and development of the band program
• Assessment procedures to measure the effectiveness of policy and procedures on growth and development of the band program
• Budget development and projections for institution and program planning
• Accounting procedures for the use of institution and program planning
• Inventory procedure for the control of equipment, supplies, music and uniforms
• Maintenance procedures for the care of equipment, music, and uniforms
• Prevention of undue absence of band members from class due to band program events
• Supervision of student conduct to comply with institution regulations
• Monitoring academic progress of band students
• Coordinate the use and availability of assigned physical facilities and equipment in compliance with institutional policy
• The Director of Bands shall serve, when so requested, as the facility and equipment coordinator and host for non-college instrumental music organizations utilizing the institution's facilities
• Recruiting plans and activities for the band
• Policies and procedures of scholarship authorization, with advisement to the Financial Aid Office, the Fine Arts Division Chair, the Dean of Academic Instruction, and the Vice President of Instructional Services for band members. This includes the responsibility for the awarding, altering, and/or termination of scholarship amounts for band members.
• Securing the services of part-time or adjunct staff for specialized instruction (dance instruction/choreography, percussion instruction/design, color guard instruction/choreography, etc.)
• The Director of Bands, with the counsel of the Music Department Chair, the Fine Arts Division Chair, the Dean of Academic Instruction and the Vice President of Instructional Services, shall be responsible for the development and supervision of the Assistant Band Directors’ time and duties with the college band program. Written assignments shall be prepared, when necessary, for the understanding and/or completion of assignments.

Music Instruction:
The Director of Bands shall provide academic counseling, college services, musical instruction and direction to such applied instrumental music students and ensembles as his or her training and background warrant and as the needs of the Music Department and the "Duties and Responsibilities of Instructors" requires.

Summer Band Camp:
The Director of Bands, with the counsel of the Fine Arts Division Chair and the Assistant Band Directors, shall coordinate all aspects of hosting the Summer Band Camp.
