Lead Chaperone / Dorm Assistant

Job Summary

The incumbent supervises and mentors students from first-generation, low-income, and disability backgrounds, ensuring their safety, engagement, and development during summer camp. They foster a supportive environment while guiding students in leadership, academics, and postsecondary preparation.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support regular chaperones in ensuring student safety, engagement, and participation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for overnight supervision and dorm-related concerns.
  • Oversee camper check‑ins, headcounts, and behavioral management strategies.
  • Assist in planning and executing camp activities, ensuring smooth transitions and adherence to schedules.
  • Communicate with program leadership student needs, safety issues, or other concerns.
  • Enforce all camp policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure a secure experience for all participants.
  • Handle emergency situations and ensure all safety protocols are followed.
  • Chaperone educational and cultural activities/ field trips.
  • Serve as a mentor to Talent Search participants.
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned by the Talent Search Director.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: Candidate must be at least a college junior with a GPA of 3.0
  • Minimum Experience: Two (2) years’ experience working with at-risk/disadvantaged students
  • Licenses /

    Certifications:

    License or professional credentials in relevant discipline (if applicable)
  • Experience in youth leadership, camp coordination, or student mentoring, preferably in an educational or summer camp setting.
  • Strong decision-making, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to guide and support regular chaperones in fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Ability to supervise, engage, and provide a safe and supportive environment for campers.
  • Ability to enforce camp rules, maintain discipline, and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work with fellow chaperones, camp staff, and program director.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to oversee schedules and ensure smooth operations.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and patience in managing daily camp activities and unexpected challenges.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures and behavior management strategies.
