Dean of Student Services (Utica)

Position Title:

Dean of Student Services (Utica). The Dean serves as the primary point of contact for the identified campus and as the liaison for all Student Services, overseeing daily operations, staffing, student concerns, strategic planning, policy development, and enrichment initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact on the designated campus, providing leadership, guidance, and campus oversight.
  • Manage day‑to‑day operations of the assigned campus, coordinating with student services departmental leads to deliver high‑quality services.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with departmental leads, faculty, staff, and other campuses to enhance student experience.
  • Lead and manage the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) to address student behavioral concerns.
  • Act as the Deputy TitleIX contact for the campus, handling student reporting.
  • Coordinate student conduct processes, ensuring adherence to institutional policies.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures related to student conduct, rights, and responsibilities, ensuring compliance with FERPA, TitleIX, and ADA.
  • Oversee initiatives designed to enhance student engagement, retention, and success.
  • Collaborate with student organizations, faculty, and staff to create opportunities for leadership, development, and involvement.
  • Update and maintain the student handbook and current information on student services webpages and forms.
  • Manage departmental budget, ensuring execution and financial oversight.
  • Direct programs and initiatives that advance learning, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for staff within the Division of Student Services.
  • Collaborate with institutional effectiveness and other departments to assess and measure the impact of student services programs.
  • Assist in all areas of student services as needed and perform additional duties assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise the administrative assistant in the Dean’s Office, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, evaluating performance, providing recognition and discipline, and resolving complaints.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, student affairs, or a related field (doctoral degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in student services or related areas.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse student populations and a strong commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience in crisis management and student advocacy.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations affecting student services (FERPA, TitleIX, ADA).
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology to enhance student engagement and support services.
Physical Demands

The position requires frequent use of hands, arms, vision, hearing, standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment

The work environment is moderate in noise level and may require occasional outdoor and off‑site duties.

Employment Type

Full‑time, 12‑month position, 260 days, 40 scheduled hours per week.
