Poplarville Lower Elementary Paraprofessional with Instructional Duties

Paraprofessional with Instructional Duties

Qualifications:

Applicants must have:

  • Completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or
  • Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment. Mississippi uses ACT Work Keys assessment scores to measure this standard.

Principal

Job Goal:
To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation education, in accordance with each pupil's ability.

Essential Functions

Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:

  • INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT:
    The paraprofessional with instructional duties will deliver the instructional program in an organized and effective manner by:
    • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning the material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
    • Devises special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
    • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
    • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
    • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
    • Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date.
    • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make up work, as assigned by the teacher.
    • Checks and records student attendance.
    • Collects and records collection of money.
    • Alerts the teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
  • CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT The paraprofessional with instructional duties will exhibit effective classroom management skills by:
  • Providing a physical environment that is safe, orderly, hazard-free, and conducive to learning.
  • Consistently implementing approved disciplinary measures to allow for effective instruction and classroom management.
  • COMMUNICATION The paraprofessional will exhibit effective communication skills by:
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
    The paraprofessional with instructional duties will exhibit professional growth by:
  • Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
  • Participates in and completes the approved district Professional Development Program.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the immediate supervisor may from time to time assign.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth
  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:
    The paraprofessional with instructional duties will comply with district and school policies by:
  • Adhering to policies and procedures established by district, school, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Submitting required reports efficiently, promptly, and accurately.
  • Inventorying classroom materials, textbooks, and equipment

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintains appropriate professional appearance
  • Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
