  • Completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or

Job Goal

To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation education, in accordance with each pupil's ability;

Functions INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning the material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Devises special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make up work, as assigned by the teacher.
  • Check and record student attendance.
  • Collect and record collection of money.
  • Alert the teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of a fully licensed teacher.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
  • Provide a physical environment that is safe, orderly, hazard‑free, and conducive to learning.
  • Consistently implement approved disciplinary measures to allow for effective instruction and classroom management.
COMMUNICATION
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Participate in in‑service training programs, as assigned.
  • Participate in and complete the approved district Professional Development Program.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the immediate supervisor may from time to time assign.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
  • Adhere to policies and procedures established by district, school, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Submit required reports efficiently, promptly, and accurately.
  • Inventory classroom materials, textbooks, and equipment.
