Job Description

TITLE: Assistant Teacher

JOB GOALS:

• To support the delivery of Chickasaw County School District’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
• To ensure the reflection and communication of a positive image and attitude toward decisions and functions of the district as they relate to the public, staff, parents, and students.
• To assist the classroom teacher in meeting the needs of students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Is highly qualified (AA degree or 60 college hours from an accredited college or passed the ACT Work Keys Test).
• Has knowledge of curriculum frameworks.
• Has knowledge of reading, writing/literacy development.
• Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication.
• Displays ability to establish and maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building principal or designee.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES under the supervision of a certified teacher.

• Participates in district and school professional development.
• Works directly with students, reinforcing skills previously taught by teacher.
• Participate in analysis and interpretation of data to monitor student progress.
• Comply with district policies and procedures.
• Attends multi-sensory phonics training.
• Provides group instruction as prescribed by certified teachers.
• Provides individualized instruction.
• Demonstrates various instructional strategies.
• Monitors work assigned by teacher.
• Checks and corrects student’s work while in progress.
• Keeps students on task.
• Praises and reinforces achievement of students.
• Reports student progress to teacher.
• Maintains high standards, ethical behavior and confidentiality of student issues.
• Exemplifies strong work ethics and professionalism (i.e. promptness, attendance and professional dress).

OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The salary and length of contract shall be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal or designee in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
