Academic Advisor
Responsible for academic retention, and advisement by creating support services for persistence and graduation, resulting in student success.
DutiesAcademic Advisor Duties:
Ability to build supportive relationships with students and provide meaningful opportunities for students to connect, get involved, persist, and succeed;
Tracking and reporting of subpopulations; documenting contacts; making referrals; and maintaining advisee files. Advises students in the registration process through to graduation;
Completes and maintains required student reports and records;
Administers and interprets applicable placement and career interest tests to prospective students;
Case manages subpopulations and acts as an advocate as appropriate;
Participates in on and off campus events promoting East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) and assists with orientation programs;
Assists in organizing, promoting, and maintaining the Student Success Center;
Maintains familiarity with articulation and other agreements between EMCC and other postsecondary institutions;
Assists in the development and execution of short- and long-range plans for the Student Success Center and EMCC;
Assists in the administration of the tutoring program and distance education;
Effectively communicates with, cooperates with, and supports other college personnel in daily activities. Supports the College mission implicitly and explicitly in the daily execution of all duties and responsibilities;
Actively participates in maintaining an effective and continuous recruiting program;
Participates in Institutional Effectiveness activities;
Represents the College in a professional manner as evidenced by dress, demeanor and the discharge of daily responsibilities;
Fulfills other duties as assigned by the President and/or supervisor.
Education:
Master's degree required.
Skills:
Strong work ethic, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, required;
Office management and computer skills required;
Demonstrated ability to take initiative toward project completion; and the ability to work collaboratively with team members required. Work Experience includes required number of years documented experience in a comparable/related position: 2 years relative work experience required Other
Qualifications:
Previous advising experience; experience in social media applications.
