Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a experienced Materials & Processes Engineer / Principal Materials & Processes Engineer - 2nd Shift specializing in composite materials for airframe structures to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. Position located in Iuka, MS.

Key responsibilities:

* Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production composite issues

* Generates test plans & reports

* Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems

* Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes

* Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications

* Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications

* May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures

* May travel to subcontractor locations

Basic Qualifications:

( This requisition may be filled at either level based on qualifications below)
* M&P Engineer (level
2) requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 2 years of experience to include a background in composite materials for airframe structures

* Principal M&P Engineer (level
3) requires a minimum of a BS in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience to include a background in composite materials OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience to include a background in composite materials for airframe structures

* Experience with composite fabrication and design on aircraft

* Experience with repair processes composite materials used in aerospace structures

* Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance prior to start

* Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance

* Ability to perform this role 2nd shift.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Degree discipline in Materials Science or similar

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to collaborate in a team environment

* Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously

* Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions

* Experience with military specs and standards
