Safety Manager What you will enjoy doing- Build and drive a proactive safety culture at the plant to create an environment where employees and supervisors are engaged in working safely, and to implement, support and manage safety programs.
- Prepare, maintain, and comply with federal, state, and local agency environmental reporting and permitting and Corporate EHS Standards.
- Advise on all EHS legislation and legal requirements.
- Ensure the facility maintains ongoing compliance with OSHA/EPA requirements, safety standards, wastewater treatment plant operations, air permits, and waste management practices.
- Serve as the interface with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Investigate injuries/illnesses, near‑misses, and environmental incidents to determine root causes and provide corrective action plans; manage and track injury, illness, and environmental data; lead reductions in injury and illness rates and environmental impact and costs.
- Develop and implement EHS programs, policies, procedures, and best‑practice techniques; implement new regulatory requirements; provide control measures that reduce or eliminate risks to the company; implement and maintain an EHS Management System; oversee and optimize EHS training programs.
- Conduct EHS assessments at the facility, identify areas for improvement, and lead corrective actions from plant and corporate/third‑party audits.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert for wastewater treatment plant compliance and management; outline specific safety programs; coordinate, review, and update plans such as the plant’s Emergency Plan, Hazardous Material Contingency Plan, Hazardous Waste Plan, LEIs, Emission Plan, etc., ensuring objectives are met.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of management experience in an operations/manufacturing environment; equivalent education and experience will be considered.
- Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to mentor and motivate, with a real passion for EHS.
- Ability to compile, format, and present in front of large groups on a frequent basis; support of a 24/7 shift and weekend operations.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; able to navigate custom databases and online document management software; able to work on teams, manage multiple tasks, and interact with senior management.
- Preferred candidate will have knowledge/experience in industrial hygiene and/or environmental compliance.
