Responsibilities
  • Works an assigned night shift to ensure 24-hour operations coverage, operating the telephone, radio, and other equipment.
  • Monitor multiple communication systems (radio, telephone, satellite, alerting software, email, and situational awareness platforms) for emergency incidents and requests for assistance.
  • Receive, process, and disseminate emergency alerts, warnings, and notifications to appropriate agencies and stakeholders.
  • Initiate and maintain communication with local jurisdictions, state agencies, federal partners, and first responders during incidents.
  • Operate state emergency alert and warning systems, including IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert & Warning System), EAS (Emergency Alert System), and Wireless Emergency Alerts.
  • Maintain situational awareness by monitoring weather reports, National Weather Service alerts, and intelligence briefings.
  • Log and document all incidents, notifications, and communications in accordance with state and federal standards.
  • Support Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations by providing timely information, coordinating resources, and facilitating situational reporting.
  • Assist in the coordination of mutual aid requests and disaster response resource deployment.
  • Conduct regular system checks, testing, and troubleshooting of communication and alerting equipment.
  • Participate in training, exercises, and after-action reviews to enhance operational readiness.

*** The duties of this position require working nights, weekends, and rotating shifts. The incumbent will be assigned to a 3/2 split night shift (6:00 pm to 6:00 am). ***

What you'll need to be Successful

The individual must be a self-starter and be able to work independently with or without supervision; possessing multi-tasking skills are essential to balance primary and additional duty assignments and crisis management situations; proficient with computer technology and using Microsoft programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe products); capable of researching IT problems individually while working autonomously; and internet proficiency with abilities to research and analyze internet data sources for inclusion in products, briefings, and common operating picture.

Able to work nights, weekends, and rotating shifts. This position may require the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of emergency management principles, public safety communications, and disaster response protocols.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to relay critical information clearly and concisely under pressure.
  • Proficiency with radio systems, computer-aided dispatch, incident management software, and alerting platforms.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), and emergency operations planning.
  • Analytical skills to assess incoming information and determine appropriate response actions.
  • Completion of FEMA Independent Study courses (IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800) within probationary period.
