Essential Job Functions- The Communications Officer must have a working knowledge of the Federal Communications Commission Rules and Regulations as well as the Alcorn State Police Department General Order
- Receives classroom and on-the-job training on the retrieval, analysis, and potential uses for enforcement data available through such local, state, and national automated information systems such as MJIC, NCIC, NLETS, and other Law Enforcement databases
- Make network distribution of traffic based on enforcement needs
- Review incoming and outgoing criminal-related law enforcement traffic, including disaster and crime alerts
- Make notification of unusual events or incidents to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Monitor the camera system
- May be required to maintain a working knowledge of emergency management procedures as related to public safety and the operation of the National Advance Warning Alarm System
- Report problems related to network operations and performance
- Adhere to defined procedures as required by the Mississippi Justice Information Center, Central Data Processing Authority, National Crime Information Center, and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems
- Maintain necessary logs and files
- Prepares and/or submits daily reports
- Other related duties, as assigned
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have knowledge of computers or some related skills
The incumbent in this position must complete the certification requirements/minimum standards for telecommunicators as set forth by the Board of Emergency Telecommunications Standards and Training.

- General knowledge of the duties performed by a communication officer

- Ability to communicate effectively
