QualificationsA Speech Language Pathologist must have a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university as a minimum requirement and hold at least a "AA" valid teaching license in the state of Mississippi with an endorsement in Speech Language Pathology.
Membership in the Mississippi Speech and Hearing Association and in American Speech and Hearing Association is preferred.
Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology and certification of the Mississippi Board of Examiners in Speech Pathology is also preferred.

Job GoalTo establish a speech, language, and hearing program that will meet the varying communication needs and skills of individual pupils; that will reflect comprehensive planning and provide for the development of a continuum of services including appropriate procedures for early identification, diagnosis, consultation, referral, habilitation, instruction and evaluation.
Responsibilities- Serves as a resource to the school staff members in the development of balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
- Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of children with speech, language, or hearing disabilities.
- Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech language impairments.
- Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
- Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
- Provides information and support to parents and families when appropriate.
- Implement the referral to placement process as required by Mississippi Department of Education in a professional and ethical manner.
- Keeps thorough on-going records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
- Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
- Compiles case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early development history, and environmental history is deemed appropriate.
- Participates in departmental, school and district professional development.
- Supports local, state and regional professional growth activities.
- Reviews pertinent publications as time permits.
- Acquaints district personnel of new test, trends, and techniques.
- Successfully completes the district staff development plan.
- Interprets program to public through PTA meetings, community organizations, colleges, parents, teachers, and other related specialists.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Maintains appropriate professional appearance.
- Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality.
Performance of job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
Office / Room LocationPoplarville School District as assigned.
Scope of WorkTo support the Mission and Beliefs of the District when carrying out duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Smartphone UseNot required for communication. Should not be used for personal use at times in which students are assigned to the teacher.
Payscale187 days annually with salary in accordance to the salary schedule as approved by the Board of Trustees.
