Specialist I
This position is accountable for the registration of patients at the hospital, including outpatient testing, surgeries, emergency room visits, admissions, and/or potentially switchboard coverage. PRN team members have the opportunity to work a variety of registration functions and day or night shifts, depending on departmental needs. This position requires obtaining financial forms, securing deposits, verifying insurance, and maintaining frequent contact with patients and the public by phone and in person.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Register patients accurately and timely;
Verify insurance coverage;
Collect deposits;
Make financial arrangements;
Assign patient rooms;
Pre-register patients by phone;
Verify insurance and pre-certification requirements;
Complete financial applications for uninsured inpatients;
Provide support in Emergency Registration, Central Registration, and Switchboard operations;
Opportunities to work a variety of day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent;
Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred;
Previous experience in medical billing, collections, registration, customer service, or healthcare finance strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
Primarily seated in a front desk/reception area;
May involve occasional lifting of files or office supplies up to 15 pounds;
Frequent interaction with patients, staff, providers, and visitors. All candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations will be made in accordance with ADA.
