Position Summary

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, labor management, and planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting and customer communication activities daily, including labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment and manpower. People's management responsibilities include hiring and training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues, and resolving problems. Under the direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for supervising the receiving, warehousing and shipping of products in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct staff meetings to review daily/weekly work activities and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Effectively keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical issues that affect operations.
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably in accordance with company policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Manage operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals and comply with terms outlined in the site's operating agreement with the client.
  • Implement and report on cost‑savings measures and provide ideas and suggestions for more efficient operations.
  • Meet all client‑specified KPI’s and comply with quality system requirements.
  • Apply sound communication and motivational techniques, create fair and equitable supervision programs, counsel and, where needed, discipline team members.
  • Provide direction and support to Human Resources and assist in creating programs for hiring, training and professional development.
  • Participate in performance evaluation system for recommending promotions, wage increases and other HR activities.
  • Hold overall training and evaluation responsibilities for warehouse staff.
  • Plan the daily work schedule by reviewing existing work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions, assessing priorities, and assigning duties to appropriate staff.
  • Review pending jobs or trends, plan for reorganization of warehouse space, and adjust staffing or inventory levels as needed.
  • Train new staff in assigned duties or delegate training to experienced team members, assessing trainee progress and adding duties as appropriate.
  • Keep informed of quantity and quality of jobs performed throughout the day and provide guidance and advice as necessary.
  • Assign supervisory duties to experienced team members acting as leads for lower‑level staff, keeping abreast of progress or problems.
  • Keep manager advised of progress or problems requiring attention daily, hold regular meetings with warehouse staff to assess overall status, discuss improvement ideas and keep staff informed of new developments.
  • Assist in physical operations as needed, deliver results by leveraging the skills of the right people at the right time.
  • Maintain a high degree of motivation in team members to focus on providing highest levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide ongoing growth and development opportunities for team members and conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Support adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train team members with adherence to corporate and client SOPs.
Education & Experience
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • 3 years’ experience working in logistics, distribution or a relevant environment.
  • 1 year experience in a supervisory role.
  • Preferred:
    Prior MHE certification / knowledge of basic MHE operation.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Professional Designations
  • Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
Computer Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • RF Scanner usage.
  • WMS functions.
Language Skills
  • Business communication.
Mathematical Skills
  • Basic to intermediate level to verify quantities of product, count inventory, or perform other duties associated with handling, storing and distributing client products.
