Plant Operator; Dickerson & Bowen

General Overview

Dickerson & Bowen – Paving the way for growth and development since 1947 – is a leading provider of aggregates, asphalt and asphalt paving services in central and southern Mississippi. This position is responsible for operating a hot plant to meet production goals and perform repair and maintenance as needed.

• Operate a hot plant efficiently to maintain production goals.
• Place raw aggregate and liquid asphalt materials through the mixing drum to be stored in silos until ready for load‑out on trucks for delivery to job sites.
• Perform general maintenance, repair, and service on the hot plant as required.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, and with company policies and procedures.
• Operate equipment as needed, including front‑end loader, skip loader, skid steer, and other equipment.
• Communicate current job information with contractors and drivers.
• Maintain plant files and records.

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

• 5+ years of experience operating a hot plant – preferred.
• Experience with Astec controls.

• Knowledge of hot mix asphalt business and operations.
• Ability to troubleshoot plant operational issues.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to obtain an M.S.H.A. Part 46 Certificate (5000‑23) as required.
• Practice good safety habits.
• Ability to work in dusty or dirty surroundings.
• Follow instructions and meet set standards.
• Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
• Physically: stoop, bend, and crouch; use hands, arms, and legs fully; see well; lift up to 80 pounds.
• Ability to react and quickly adapt in a fast‑paced plant environment.
• Ability to communicate bilingually in English and Spanish is a plus.

• Comply with, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives.
• Demonstrate ability to learn company’s time‑keeping and reporting systems.
• Willingness to abide by the company’s Code of Conduct daily.
• Understand and comply with MSHA rules and regulations.
