General Overview
Dickerson & Bowen – Paving the way for growth and development since 1947 – is a leading provider of aggregates, asphalt and asphalt paving services in central and southern Mississippi. This position is responsible for operating a hot plant to meet production goals and perform repair and maintenance as needed.
Essential Job Accountabilities- Operate a hot plant efficiently to maintain production goals.
- Place raw aggregate and liquid asphalt materials through the mixing drum to be stored in silos until ready for load‑out on trucks for delivery to job sites.
- Perform general maintenance, repair, and service on the hot plant as required.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, and with company policies and procedures.
- Operate equipment as needed, including front‑end loader, skip loader, skid steer, and other equipment.
- Communicate current job information with contractors and drivers.
- Maintain plant files and records.
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
Work Experience- 5+ years of experience operating a hot plant – preferred.
- Experience with Astec controls.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of hot mix asphalt business and operations.
- Ability to troubleshoot plant operational issues.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to obtain an M.S.H.A. Part 46 Certificate (5000‑23) as required.
- Practice good safety habits.
- Ability to work in dusty or dirty surroundings.
- Follow instructions and meet set standards.
- Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
- Physically: stoop, bend, and crouch; use hands, arms, and legs fully; see well; lift up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to react and quickly adapt in a fast‑paced plant environment.
- Ability to communicate bilingually in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Comply with, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives.
- Demonstrate ability to learn company’s time‑keeping and reporting systems.
- Willingness to abide by the company’s Code of Conduct daily.
- Understand and comply with MSHA rules and regulations.
